Why you shouldn't play Diablo 3

I bet the title kinda got you didn't it?

May 15th has sweep some of our feet away. For those who hasn't caught up yet, Diablo 3 has been launched after a 12 Year wait. Many excited fans have been craving for the sequel for the longest of time. I personally craved for a WarCraft 4 but we all know that, that will probably never come to pass. Nonetheless, I'm here to talk about what is current and could be consuming our lives.

This post goes out to the people who...

1) Have already bought the game

2) Are considering to buy the game

3) Are unsure what if game is really worth it

So first let us take a look at what this game is all about. 

What is Diablo 3?

Diablo 3 is a Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) You go on quests, find loot, spice up the character you're playing, rinse and repeat. What is so intriguing about this you ask? Well for starters Diablo throws you into a world of magic and monsters, it is fair exciting with relatively simple enemies for the most part of the first few hours. As you progress, you'll find yourself craving for better gear, facing a variety of enemy types (they get stronger and smarter as play on) as well as a whole pool of people to work with or compete against. 

Its not all about "Click, Click, Click", there is some skill involved...

Fighting a mob of enemies...

Fighting a big fugly boss...

But here's the real question. Are you merely jumping onto the Diablo 3 bandwagon?

Not sure? 

Here are a few more questions.

You bought Diablo 3 because "Derp said so."
You saw the amazing queue for Diablo and said "Ahh what the heck!"
Your friends are playing it and you don't want to be left out.

If you said yes, then you're probably not gonna be gaining the full experience Diablo 3 has to offer, in fact, Diablo 3 would most probably wear you out. To be honest, that is mostly likely not the case if you're already playing Diablo 3 now. So what's my point? Well the point is, to point out on what you're most likely missing if Diablo 3 is not the MMORPG for you.

The year 2012 is the year of cream of the crop MMORPGs in my opinion. Why? Let me show you the titles on the PC this year.

Believe me when I say that this year there is something for everyone. 

If you still haven't decided on which MMORPG to play above is an A-list.

TERA

TERA has on its own claimed the name of "True Action RPG" gone are the ways of "Click, Kill, Click, Loot, Click, Talk" TERA is a relatively new game and so far critics say, it is fast paced and will keep you on edge. Of course, with every game, it does have some shortcomings. Being a relatively new game, its questing  seems a little bit of tangent. It doesn't seem to have a congruence to it. Nonetheless if you are looking for something other than Diablo 3, TERA is definitely a contender and a big powerhouse in the making.

Diablo 3

I think I have talked about this enough right? Anyway, the 12 year long wait has made many people shudder in anticipation. So far so good. Diablo 3 has improved on its already mature formula for the game and it has taken a new spin to its leveling system. Players in general seem very happy about it of course there is the Day One launch complaints about server downtime, but what is there to hate? The pace of the game is perfect for an already well established RPG, a real world money auction house for player to make money of the legendary loot they may come across as well as a story line to spice things up a bit. I believe the 12 year wait was worth it.

Free-To-Play, Diablo style MMORPG

The Secret World

To be honest this part may be a tad bit biased. I caught wind of this RPG in 2011 and I became very impressed by what FUNCOM, the developers, promised. So what is so special about this RPG? It does look Diablo-esque but here is where The Secret World sets itself apart from the rest. A story driven MMORPG which focuses on puzzles, inquiry and investigation instead of just battles. Of course this game still does have the classic mob of enemies and the occasion epic boss battle but the crowd i feel that The Secret World garners is nothing like the classic MMORPG gamer from WoW, DC universe or Diablo 3 for that matter.

Within the game there will be quests known as Investigation Missions (IMs). IMs are quests that features puzzles, riddles, ciphers that require time, effort and intellect (not the stat, your actual real brain) to complete.  Thus, the secret world is definitely not for everyone. If the IMs are not your cup of tea, I say go back to Diablo/WoW. 

Another special part of the game is that it does not have any class restrictions. Your character can be a jack of all trades or specialise in a set of skills which range from the typical melee brawler to longer range gunner/mage and the ever deadly assassin. How does this work you may ask? Well if you are interested then please do go check out The Secret World, I feel that it will not disappoint.

Guild Wars 2

Another long awaited sequel. 7 Years and counting. Guild War is famous for it beautiful settings and down right intricate character customisation. On top of that it has taken the MMORPG genre for a new spin. You do not level up in guild wars instead you unlock new powers with the weapon you're equipped with. In addition to that quests aren't just giving out in the typical I talk to Le' NPC instead, events occur as you are questing/roaming.

 This encourages players to jump into the event area and slay, say 100 beasts, or protect a village from an onslaught of evil bandits, rewards are substantial enough for people to actually participate and it also takes out the linearity of game play. On top of that, Guild Wars 2 boast massive WORLD VS WORLD PVP. What more is there to ask? 

This is the big monster MMO that will rival WoW and Diablo in the near future.

A brand new beginning

This will be the first post of many to come by. As some of you may have noticed, my blog has undergone a makeover. Very simple easy to navigate and still in the process of further and new changes.

Call this a fresh start for me.

Lets recap what has gone on with this life of mine for the past few years. (I know this may bore some but nevertheless if you do continue to read, do it with caution.)

Having graduated from SAJC, home of the SAINTS

I have been down in the dumps (some call it depression) for the past one year or so. So of you people out there may ask why?

Simple.

I have been harboring thoughts that I made a wrong life decision, JC sooooo wasn't the path for me to choose and I just crave and yearn for the ability to run back in time to change my course of life. (When I say run its more of a sprint actually)

No Matter. Now I am stuck in the hell of a hole made by my beloved nation.

Singapore.

What is this hell hole called?

Why do I call it a hell hole? Easy.

Its just like hell, a cycle of death.

Enlistment -- The First Death

First you enlist as Recruits,

and you undergo Basic Military Training (BMT) you get chewed and tortured at times and live in fear of what come next. Slowly life gets better as you're more accustomed to the hell you are in and then comes the Passing Out Parade (POP) where suddenly you see light at the end of the tunnel. Glorious Glorious light and you get your Block Leave. A week of freedom and heaven.

Next the Chains of Hell drag you back to the Hell hole once more.

Posting -- The Varying Degrees of Torture. Second Death.

Some may receive their posting of a lifetime (literally) why? Because they commit themselves to Hell in hopes that it will be better than the concrete jungle they face outside. I cannot give you first hand experience of how or what the contract of hell entails but from what I see, in time to come many cannot wait to get out when their deed is done.

No matter, even if you may or may not have chosen to sign your name on that piece of paper and say yes to the endless abyss, many of us are still forced to slave for two years in the hell hole. To us, here time stops and we fall behind many of our counterparts (Female/Sickly) who are furthering their education or have ventured out into the many concrete jungles in the world.

Back to the Second Death. Posting. Some may get slated to become an Officer and go to Officer Cadet School (OCS) others may be asked to join a group of Specialists and be transferred to Specialist Cadet School. (Used to be known as SISPEC, now SCS) The rest? What ever their posting be it Clerk, Storeman, Infantry, Armor or Air Force Technician (That's Me) We will all be sent to some form of training institute for varying amounts of time.

Even so the degree of torture in the various training schools vary...

From Complete and brutal Physical torture

to mindless drone work

and the occasional "I haven't got anything to do here! This is Para, para Paradise."

This song is good! Anyway back to the main point. We are once again the lowest lifeforms and most of us will get tortured in someway or another.

Finally after long (or short) and arduous training we will come to the final point of our journey (Or at least that's how i broke the stages of NS apart)

Transfer -- The third Death

After some may have gotten used to the life in the training institute it is once again time to graduate (get posted out "AGAIN")

Finally we have made our way to the various units where we are ONCE AGAIN the new kid on the block (the lowest life form) be it you're an Officer, Sergeant or lowly Private. You live your life here and climb up the ranks (Socially/Military) in hope your life gets better.

As time goes by, you climb out of the hell of a hole and pursue what you want to do in life. Maybe even get stuck in a brand new hell hole (I'll never know)

Of course that isn't to say that NS is necessarily a bad thing. To me I just take things as they come but no one can deny the fact that this liability (at least to most of us) does set us back a year or two.

Today is the 27th of November, I have been in EX Wallaby for the past two and a half months. Most of my peers have just taken their flight home today, leaving me here to await my C130 flight back home.

Having taken many a month here thinking about the finer things in life I have decided to start blogging once again to rekindle something within me and this is just the start. I would call this post a milestone in my life and hopefully one that will last and slowly mature. So I will end this post here by say, watch this space for most posts.

Hey heard the not so recent advancement of starhub cable TV?

Well if you haven't seen the ads on your tv box or something then its time for you to realise that STARHUB now offers KARAOKE!!!!


I mean really check it out! Haha old news to most people

YEAH! Now time for every husband out there to get back starhub cable vision so that the ladies can have a ladies night and sing all night long, while the men can watch footy in the living room :/

Anyway ever wondered where karaoke originated from? Well well take a small guess ;)

JAPAN! KARAOKE!

KARA meaning empty (no not you kara :X)

OKE being the short form of okesutora (ie. orchestra)

We all don’t need any explanation on how or what is karaoke but hmm doesn’t hurt to compare a few :D

Lets start with two of the most popular by far…


KBox

and

you name it…


Party World of course.

So what do we need to look at? Membership benefits? Prices? Song Choices?

Lets start with their price list first

For KBox they charge per head per session. So lets us have a troop of 4.

They would pay… $18++ on a regular day per pax or $25++ for Friday and Saturday

This is for 7pm till closing.

and this does not include service charge, GST or the compulsory copyright charge, $2++ per person
also the $7++ per one or two people which is the compulsory tidbits charge.

so if we sum it all up its about $24++ per pax on a regular day and $34++ for Friday and Saturday.

Did i mention each person gets two complimentary drinks?

hmmm…

What about Party World?

For the same troop of 4…

They would have to pay $50++ in total for a 4 hour session on a regular day or $78++ in total on Friday or Saturday.

this is from 8pm till closing hour… but the session is limited to 4 hours.

and this does not include service charge, GST or the compulsory copyright charge or the tidbits charge and stuff like that. Prices can’t be found on their website… so I assume that it is the same price as KBox for calculations sake :D

so if we calculate per pax then for Party World it’s $18++ on a regular day and $25++ on a Friday or Saturday.

Lastly did I mention that each person is entitled one complimentary drink?

So on price listing… Party world saves us 6-9 dollars.

Moving on…

I don’t want to talk about their membership stuff mainly because… there isn’t many uses and that this post is getting to darn long.

So if we look at song choice which neither of them have anything on their website…

through my own personal experience and some snooping around i can conclude that Party World is slightly back dated by about a month whereas KBox is quite up to date… ON CHINESE SONGS.

If we look at the other languages… (mainly English) I say they don’t have many of the songs and more over… most oldies or slightly not so new anymore kind of songs have ultra disgusting videos… such as this one right here.

I don’t mean to say the videos are of animals and stuff… but…. Well… you go try and see for yourself. Besides… why don’t they redo their english song database. I mean, isn’t there some kind of demand?

I know I want something better that monkey’s attacking deer’s :/

So… Party World or KBox? Give me a little hands up on
who you’re voting for.

And on a side note. What about all those rock band and guitar hero (band hero) sing a long games, I am sure you’ve played them.

and what is your take on the Starhub Channel 888 the Karaoke one? From what I’ve heard, they have horrid song choice. Okay maybe not horrid but… They don’t have a good one. *shrugs*
